In my long career as a corporate leader, working with a diverse group of colleagues across the globe, some of my biggest learnings have been around interpersonal relationships. Its amazing how much work gets done through building positive relationships with people at the workplace. I had my fair share of office politics, ego driven meeting agendas, hierarchy laden conversations..:) but above all were the simple heart to heart connects built with the most amazing people I worked with.
My first lesson in corporate excellence was with my boss in Reuters. A wonderful lady based out of a picturesque UK town, Tiverton, she held my hand and taught me my first steps in professional life as a leader. My 1x1s with her would be at 6 am her time a[I was in Bangalore]nd she would never miss those meetings… focused on getting the to dos done, she would always have time to ask about my kids or just “how are you feeling Anu?”. If I had a tough time with my team members she would always say” I have your back Anu, I trust you”.
That was my first lesson in worklife.. build trust and trust others first! It has always been my strength… my most prized feedback ever has been” Anu is trustworthy”
